Connection
History

The South Renton Connection (SRC) was founded in 2009 to promote community within its historic neighborhood. Since its inception, it has brought neighbors together to celebrate at our annual picnics, coordinate routine community clean ups, and bolster beautification efforts with local art. The SRC has been a space for neighbors to come together and stay informed on current city issues and projects, find ways to get involved in their communities, and have their voices heard. Notable in the SRC's history is when neighbors collaborated in 2015 to have the city of Renton plant street trees on our block.  After much discussion with the city arborist, the SRC submitted for a grant for tree planting and those same trees are now 10 years old as a reminder of what we can build together.

One of the best known initiatives for the SRC is the beautification work conducted through:

  • The Fire Hydrant Art Project

  • The Linear Park Historic Mini-mural project

  • The Farmers Market Mural on the south wall of the then, Burger Town building

  • A Horse of a different Color Project at the south end of the Linear Park

  • Art banners that appeared on the City Parking garage
